Hello all,
I'm trying to install fresh ESXi ISO into Supermicro server, storage is RAID 10 configured on Adaptec 5405 controller.
Here's screen shot of my console.
Please help me understand what is going wrong.
Hi,
this disk controller it has been reported to work in this whitebox esxi hcl.
Then it should work.
Check if you can try (just a test) to install some recent operating system to check if the virtual disk created with the disk controller is ok.
Also you can try to upgrade the disk controller firmware. Maybe this helps.
Check this post. Maybe it can be helpful.
Regards/Saludos,
Pablo

Please check whether the hardware is compatible for ESXi Installable.
It's supported, I've looked into HCL before choose the RAID controller.
I got the most fresh firmware http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/downloads/bios_fw/bios_fw_ver?productId=SAS-5405&dn=AdaptecRAID5405.
Ubuntu 10.04 was installed without problems in this setup (and 9.10 was preinstalled). Please help!
Your RAID controller might be supported, however your server isn't. There may be chipset issues with that server which may prevent ESX from communicating with the controller as it should.

Maybe Supermicro support can help you with a new firmware or any hints.

Andre,
Thanks for hint it's very appreciated. But does anyone know how to get installation log to get closer to the issue?
Not sure if you can get to a console with ATL-F1 or ALT-F12 at this point, however what you could try is installing ESXi on an USB stick and once it is up and running check the log files.

I got URF|http://supermicro.com/products/system/1U/6016/SYS-6016T-URF.cfm]. And in VMware HCL listed SYS-6016T-NTRF as compatible. The ONLY difference I've found is different PCI-Express slots.
Maybe I should give a try to integrated SATA Intel ICH10R Controller to see if problem with BIOS or PCI-Express slot?
have a check :
