ESXi Hosts - Find Disk Info

Hello,

Noob here.  I have a number of ESXi hosts in vCenter clusters.  How can I find out disk information of where the OS is installed?  I know ESXi is installed on Dell internal dual SD cards, but I can't find any information in iDRAC about those SD cards like their size.

I am trying to plan upgrades of ESXi and want to make sure the SD cards are large enough to support the newer OS.  Any tips is appreciated.  Details is also appreciated since I am not super familiar with VMware.

I'm running ESXi v6.0 and only have access to the vSphere client (v6).  I can't get the web client anymore of course because of flash.

Thanks

-D

hi,

u can try [ lsblk ] to check block info

and  [ df -h ] to check disk free

if u want to check storage device info on VC , click  host\Configure\Storage Devices

with idrac 8/9 you can find the infos of the sd cards.

but if you plan to upgrade to esxi7 please read this:

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/85685

booting from sd will be no option in future releases

If you are going to ESXi 7.x (vSphere 7) then this is actually a moot point because SD cards are no longer supported as a valid install location.  You may have to purchase either HDD/SSD or get something like a BOSS card or PCIE based storage to install ESXi to.

Thanks, good to know, thanks for the tip.  I have looked into server components and found this Dell server doesn't have any HDD bays or a raid controller at the moment.
