ESXi 7 Free - GPU passthrough

Hi,

Is the option GPU passthrough option enabled in the free version , looking to test a server with 2 x P100 to check performance if possible before deciding if ESXi would be an option to move all servers and Wks to VM.

Also what would be the best method to move a live OS into ESXi as a VM ?

Thanks for the help.

Hi

Please ensure that the GPUs are compatible (check here https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php)

The ideal method would be to create and setup a VM but if that isn't an option you can use a P2V tool to convert the machine to a VM (veeam have a tool).

Ciao

Until a few months ago the VMware Converter was available (which allowed P2V and V2V) and was the best tool to convert a physical PC into a virtual machine. But now VMware has retired the tool and should release a new one.
So if you can recover it you can use the VMware Converter.

Otherwise, you can use
https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-v2v-converter

or I would not give up evaluating to install an OS from scratch its a new VM (it has its advantages, for example not having to remove all the tools and drivers of the physical version, because when you convert from P2V there are always obsolete drivers or SW to be removed manually)
