ESXi 6.7 stuck on Starting service vmtoolsd

Machine has been running for around 2 years with no issues.

Out of no where 2 days ago one of my windows VM's crashed the entire server. after a reboot it worked for 2 days. crashed this morning and now hangs on Starting service vmtoolsd

I tried to reload esxi, but still get the same issue. What can be done as this has several virtual machines on it including storage

If you have a cluster move the VMs to another host and reinstall the host. If you don't you can also reinstall ESXi but be careful when you select the installation partition/disk. After the reinstallation, you can add the previous datastore to the host and restart your VMs.
