ESXi 6.7, HBA driver confusion

Hi team,
Back in time, when we installed the 6.7 GA we have used custom Lenovo image from their repository. The adapter details:

Model Description: Emulex 01CV832 16Gb FC Single-port HBA
Hardware Version: 0000000c
OptionROM Version: 12.4.250.26
Firmware Version: 12.4.250.26
Driver Name: lpfc
DriverVersion: 11.4.341.0

Now HBA's has regularly been firmware upgraded, including all other components. The hosts are running latest build and do wonder why the lpfc hasn't been updated ever since. Why hasn't update manager/lifecycle manager not updated it. I can see there is many releases since but perhaps not been in any patches released. Or is it due to a custom image was used and the driver is been left out?
Looking at later custom images from Lenovo, I can see the driver is newer, been updated.
It's not a big problem, hosts are being upgraded to 7u3 and that iso has the newest driver. But wonder if I would be in the same situation 2 years down the road where the driver now used newer gets updated as with above.

This is not related to VMware and it's related to your server hardware vendor.

It's recommended, download latest version of your hardware firmware and driver from OEM vendor.

But newer version is also available at vmware.com to download.

Download VMware vSphere - VMware Customer Connect
