ESXi 6.5 - Guest autostart doesn't work

This is a standalone ESXi using the free licensing.

Version:  6.5.0 (Build 4564106)

State:  Normal (not connected to any vCenter Server)

The web-only management console is incredibly annoying. Increasing or decreasing priority of one VM causes the priority of OTHER VMs to change. What?

And it seems that priority means nothing for auto-start. Here we have a list of VMs with a start priority, but which is being ignored for "some" of them but not others. The one marked with priority 1 doesn't get autostarted at all.

The log shows it only tried to start two of the VMs..... and then decided to just stop there.

Any ideas what is going on here?

That documentation page is weird. It tells me to do things which I cannot do.

There is no Configure option.

"Configure" is not a choice that is available anywhere. It looks like the documentation does not match how the 6.5 Web Console works at all.

Ah, I think I see the problem, this version is a few months old:  6.5.0 (Build 4564106)

Soooo, next problem. How do I upgrade the free 6.5 ESXi? Can I download and install the "6.5 Update 1" directly over the top of the currently installed software?

(Probably for another thread)

I had same problem,

on download page (freeware) I don't have Update1. Last version I have is: VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.5, 2017-02-02 | 6.5.0a | 328.26 MB | iso

I found update on patch page (update-from-esxi6.5-6.5_update01):

https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search

and downloaded .zip file. Uploaded on my ESXi and then ran: (link)

esxcli software vib update --depot=/vmfs/volumes/59a67482-58496d7c-e10f-000ec4d206b5/ISO/update-from-esxi6.5-6.5_update01.zip

Rebooted and now autostart works Smiley Happy

I have wrote support about this.

Thanks!

T.
