ESXi 6.5.0 (build number: 5969303) - point(.) in the VM name

Why I cannot type the point(.) in the VM name???

Please check the below article which explains the issues encountered if you use special characters in VM names. You should avoid doing so.

Try updating the host client to version 1.24. You might still be using an old version. The default is 1.8. You can see the version in the "Help" - "About".

I pasted a screenshot below where I created a VM name with dots/points in the name using version 1.24 of the host client.
