So I am trying to install ESXi 5 as a VM for a class I am taking on my HP laptop. I have an Intel(R) core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5800 @2.00GHz. 4GB of RAM and am running windows 7 64bit.
I know for a fact that this particular laptop is not on the HCL list. I can begin the install as a VM via Workstation 8.0.1 using an ISO image of ESXi 5. As the install proceeds I get to a page where it is loading modules and the bard on the top of the page is getting increasingly bigger. It then looks like it is finished and gives me a message:"reloacting modules and starting kernel" and stops there.
I have done a little research of why these problems happen and one of the answers was HCL and the other was to change my on-board memory from 1MB to 8MB. So I can't access my on-board memory via my BIOS.
Am I going to be able to do install this via a VM on my machine or am I SOL?
Your CPU is missing VT-x (hardware virtualization) so Workstation has to rely on software virtualization to provide a 64 bit environment for your ESXi VM. Because of this the VM will run dead slow.

Ok, so its not that it is frozen there, it is just because it is super slow. Well thank you very much for your insight. I will wait untill we access to the college's resources.
Hi Eddie
You might have VT support but not enable on the BIOS. Check your BIOS out to see if you laptop support VT and if so make sure to turn it on.
I hope I have helped you out
