I've recently downloaded a 60 day eval of ESX which included ESXi 5.0. I've installed this on a test server but the LVM on there isn't listed under datastores which only shows one datastore which is the OS disk (the LVM is on a seperate RAID array).
I've tried SSHing onto the server but non of the usual commands e.g. lvdisplay, pvdisplay, etc work, I can't manage it with vCentre because when I try registering it I get: 'VMware ESX and VMware ESXi servers are not supported with vSphere Web Client 5.0.0.'
How am I supposed to manage the storage?
download and install vSphere client. Then access the host through it. You can download the vSphere client form the hyperlink available in webaccess.
https://<esxihost name or ip>.
Once connected to the host, select storage from the Configuration tab.
Select Add storage.
the physical RAID or LVM storage should be visible there.

Thanks, I added it using the option you mentioned. The VMWare documentation seems to be a bit lacking in this area. When looking for ESXi storage requirements I found this:
Installation and Storage
But the wizard seems to require VMFS 3 or 5 to be used which I've not seen mentioned anywhere.
Add storage wizard is for adding a Datastore (that can be a VMFS volume or NFS mount.).
When you select the hard disk, LUN or RAID volume and clikc finish, ESXi will create a VMFS partition in it. Later it can be used for stroing the virtual machines.
