ESXi 5 XServe 3.1 Install shows no Storage Device

I am having a problem installing ESXi 5 on XServe 3.1 hardware. It boots all the way into the installed but stops where you must select a storage device. There are no storage devices listed. I have reformatted the discs to be smaller than 1TB, I have also tried formatting them to be FAT32. Nothing has worked so far.

The discs that I am trying to use are local discs on the system. This server is going to be strictly test for the time being. I have tried it with and without a raid config.

Any advice?

I am having the same problem with ESXI unable to pick up the raid-card  on my X-SERVE and hence my storage. I had the issue with an almost similar problem when I was installing ESXI on a Dell Server Power Edge R230 were it could not detect the NICS; Dell resolved the issue  with  their own modified version of the .iso obviously with the drivers installed. Can VMWare not commit a new update .iso with the raid-controller drivers?
