Hi all,
I have a home lab with a trial key for esxi5, can I get the webserver to provide for the webaccess client? Or do I need I need to purchase a license? I can't find a way to install the webserver.
Thanks.
Welcome to the VMware Communities forums.
A stand alone ESXi host does not provide any capabilities for web based management. The web based client is part of vCenter Server which is a seperate product from ESXi.
Hey,
You need to download vcenter server and install that on a vm or another standalone box. Once done, install the web access server on the vcenter server itself and then you will be able to access the vcenter over the browser on port 5480 if i remember right.
First you need to link the vcenter by going to https://localhost:5480 on the vcenter itself. After that you will be able to access the vcenter over the web using the web client. Also remember to have flash to use this.

There are planty of opensource software that can be used for managing vmware or other virtualization through web. some of them are commercial or personal.
here is link to site that provide few of them. look for one that include vmware as supported platform.

I used openQRM and CloudStack and OpenNode and they are good .
PS : As i know for using vsphere web client you sould have a cCenter that joined to an Active Directory. i did'nt find a way to dont install active directory and and just the vcenter in workgroup. i always get error when i try to install SSO and vCenter inventory and vCenter.
