ESXi 5.5 NIC teaming with link aggregation

We've been having a recent discussion into how we're setting up our NICs for utilization with our File Servers.

Referring to Scott Lowe's helpful articles...

http://blog.scottlowe.org/2008/07/16/understanding-nic-utilization-in-vmware-esx/

The statement..."multiple connections to or from the VM will benefit, but each individual connection can only utilize a single link."

Am I interpreting this correctly as teaming these NICs on the ESXi side in conjunction with Port Channeling on the Cisco switch side will result in increased throughput, not just the benefit of a redundant link?

Only asking because we're finding conflicting info regarding this from different sources.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes, you're correct... in situation where a single VM communicate with multiple targets, the VM can use more bandwidth that an single physical NIC can provide... but the bandwidth for each single connection if the same of each physical NIC.

Anyway, my recommendation is to use LBT instead of IP-Hash with Port Channel on Cisco side... see the following links for some additional comments:
