ESXi 5.5: Cannot add a RAW device has Virtual?

Hi!   I'm trying to change a RAW device (2.5TB) from physical to Virtual mode for our new Veeam backup.

I've upgraded the servers to 5.5 (from 5.1) but when I remove and put back the RAW device on the VM, it still say that LUN greater than 2TB is only supported in physical mode!?

In the KB it say that it should work:

  • MFS5 in ESXi versions prior to 5.5 supported greater than 2 TB disk size for RDMs in physical compatibility mode only. However, for 5.5 (and 6.0), as stated in the Configuration Maximums VMware vSphere 5.5:
  • Raw Device Mapping size (virtual compatibility) - 62 TB
  • Raw Device Mapping size (physical compatibility) is 64 TB

The VM is on a VMFS5 volume and there's enough space.  So i'm not sure why I cannot map the RAW device in virtual mode?

What can I check?

thank you

Ok, I had to use the web console instead of the client.  :smileysilly:

Which vSphere Client do you use? Unless I'm mistaken, only the Web Client supports virtual disk sizes (including virtual RDMs) > 2TB.
