This has probably been discussed before but were looking into buying 4 servers for our ESXi 5.1 Ent. Plus Cluster but can't deceide on server model - were looking at the HP DL580 G7 4CPU E7-4850 (40 Core) vs. HP DL560 4CPU E5-4600 (32 Core) there's a reasonable cost difference between these 2.
Our concern in vCPU consolidation rate and the scheduing of the CPU is whats creating some dilemma for us 32 vs. 40. If were running small VM's with only 2vCPU/4vCPU I don't think there will be too much issue but if we start running 8vCPU VM's or even larger will there be greater CPU contention with the 32 Core server.
Any comments?
