Long running ESXi 5.1 system, had a NIC fail. It was an Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter, which had been accepted at install time. Replaced with a Intel PRO/100 Server adapter figuring to use that until I could plan a way forward.
Unfortunately, I end up with :"vmfs3 did not load" during boot up and "no compatible network adapters found" when boot up complete.
Using CLI, lspci and grep, I can tease out that a NIC is known about but, appears not to load a driver (?).
What I see is ~ AMD Seamicro 82540 Gigabit Ethernet controller EtherExperss P{ro/100 S Server Adapter class 0200:1229.
I would presume this was a compatible adapter at that time? Is there a way to make this work?
