Hi All,
I'm trying to do a clone of a VM.
It keeps failing @ 99% with the error "invalid configuration for device 12".
I searched the forums and found several similar cases, sometimes with differing device numbers, sometimes also with number 12.
Some solved it with removing all vnics and re-adding them, others with simply removing a mounted iso or something.
But nothing seems to work with my problem.
The VM itself has 5 vmdk's, 4 of which are about 1.6TB.
I clone them from an iSCSI vmsf5 datastore to another iSCSI vmfs5 datastore.
At first the vm was hardware version 8, and to troubleshoot I upgraded to vmx-09.
The problem seems to have started once I upgrade to vSphere 5.1 (from 5.0).
I tried to read through some log files, but cannot find anything. not sure which logs to read though.
Can anyone offer any suggestion?
thanks.
Post the vmx-file of that VM - that may help
Are you using vDS? If yes, have a look at this know issue;
Yes I am using a vDS.
However, it's not easy to get the VM onto a normal vSwitch.
I'll have to see i can reconfigure the physical switch...
EDIT: Also, I was able to do a clone before
But I did do a reconfigure and put the VM on a regular vSwitch and started a clone. seeing as this a vm with about 5TB of storage, it's gonna take a while (which would explain the issue described in the KB you pointed me to)
Did this resolve the issue? Hope so - Cheers, Jon
The clone takes about 40 hours so I'll get back to you on monday...
Ouch - I bet you don't want to be repeating this too many times!
