ESXi 5.1 - cannot connect CD/DVD to virtual machines

Hello,

I got 2 hosts here, both have the same hardware (HP DL380 Gen6) running ESXi 5.1.

When I insert a CD/DVD in one of them (both got the same issue), I can connect it to a virtual machine, but the machine doesnt "recieve" the device - it doesnt even act like Ive inserted/connected a media.

Restarting doesnt fix the issue. Is there any (known) way to fix this?

As a temporary solution, create an ISO image from the disk and mount it via console or datastore to your VM.

More reliable option now would be

1.Creating ISO file as per above response.

2.Upload the ISO file to the datastore attached to the host on which VM is available.

3.VM edit settings and add CD/DVD from there.

This always works fine. Attaching ISO from local desktop some time does not work .
