Guys, a bit of background first. I use both ESXi and VMware workstation 10 as a test bed and utilise a mixture of unix and Windows guest OSs.
My work situation often means that I wont come back to the test set up for a day or so and i dont want to just leave the box powered on permanently for power consumption and other reasons. Shutting down all the VMs every time and rebooting them can be time consuming and I dont want to lose any temporary test changes I may have implemented prior to embedding them into the VMs (if they work as required) at boot time.
I have tried the suspend option and then powered down the ESXi host. I have noticed in ESXi that the VMs come back fully rebooted/available at ESXi subsequent power on which is effectively what i want.
MY CONCERN IS, I have always followed best practice of correctly shutting down any OS prior to power off to maintain machine integrity. I have searched around the web for a full description of the suspend functionality without success. Am i doing the right thing using the suspend function?
