I'm trying to install ESXi 5.0 on a Dell R610. Upon boot, the loader hangs on "Loading /s.v00", and a fun rainbow-static strip appears at the top of the screen. Is this a known issue?

Ideally Dell R610 should not cause any issue. It is supported hardware. Can you check if your BIOS is latest ?
Did you resolved this issue, am experiencing the same with a Dell 1950.
Sorry for the delay, yes I did resolve, the issue was with the cdrom believe it or not.
Hmm, they had a similar issue with CD drives on certain models with 4.0 or 4.1 IIRC. Nice to know it still isn't resolved...
