ESXi 4.1u1 Installer failing on Zotac H55 ITX, Core i3 560

The issue is that the installer gets past the initial yellow screen, but immediately after I select Enter to install, bam!:

I know! I know! I should have looked at the compatibility list more closely. (I've been kicking myself all day).

But I thought that if this person could do it (http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-14517) it would be a breeze. Little did I know...

The other person's setup:
<<ZOTAC H55 Intel i5 661 4GB Gskill Instel LAN quad on PcieX16 WD 2.5 320GB Black
Samsung SLim DVD slot in Antec 150W case
Integration method:manually in very low place

What I just bought (and can't return now, hence the absolute need to get this running...):

The only differences I see (untrained eye) between the other setup and mine is

  • he's using an i5, I'm using an i3 (since then I've found out that i3 can't do VT-d)
  • I'm using an external DVD to load up.

From this thread (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/277183), there's a small chance it's maybe the dvd player -- but I can't tell from the error message if there's enough info there to go risk another 100$ on this. Can anybody else?

The other post I found was http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php -- but not only does it look ...real hard to pull off...it doesn't explain WHAT to put in the file, and where to find the information. If that is needed, does anybody have a suggestion on how to go about finding out how to do this. I'd prefer buying a new dvd player... 😉

Any and all advice on how to get this going would be much appreciated.
And yes. I should have looked at the compatibiltiy list...I know..............now.

Thanks in advance!
