ESXi 4.1 syslog local do not work

Hi all,

I have tried to configure local syslog, like described in

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=1016621

I see that the directory in which the syslog deamon should write the logs should be

~ # cat /etc/syslog.conf
logfile=/vmfs/volumes/4de8a9bf-1870ab86-7620-001e0bce4e3c/logging

but I am not able to find some logs in it, also I can not see the folder "logging".

I have rebooted the server some times without success

Maybe I understand something wrong, hope someone can help me.

best regards

andreas

Hello.

Note: This discussion was moved from the VMware ESX 4 community to the VMware ESXi 4 community.

but I am not able to find some logs in it, also I can not see the folder "logging".

Did you create the directory "logging" manually first?

Good Luck!

Right, I have solved my issue Smiley Happy in the meanwhile.

I created no direcory.

I changed the box in the syslog now to: [datastore1] logging

and now "logging" is my new log file.

THX for help!
