ESXi 4.1 problem to build Virtual Center Server

Hello,

I have a problem when I would to build the Virtual Center Server. On the ESXi 4.1 host I configure The Network Management into the VLAN 524 (140.104.224.224) and I set a Virtual Machine port Group on the same VLAN 524 (140.104.224.60).

In my build process, I need to ping the gateway (140.104.224.1) for I could make a net use on a share on our Network. But When I ping the Gateway from the ESXi host all work fine, but if I ping the gateway from my new Virtual Center Server,  the ping respond from the IP of vCenter Server : Reply from 140.104.224.60: Destination host unreachable.

If someone have any idea, I appreciate your help

Thank you in advance

Have a nice day

Best Regards

Christophe

A VM portgroup does not have an IP.

140.104.224.60 is the IP o vCenter? Correct?

For vCenter you can ping the ESXi at  140.104.224.224?

If not you must check that porgroup has the correct VLAN ID and NIC in connected to the switch port with a correct configuration.

Hello, I find the solution.

This is due to the vmnic0 and vmnic5 is configured for the Management Network in access mode, and I would put it a Virtual Machine Port Group with a VLAN 524.

The VLAN is taged but Management Network no.

I put in place the following solution:

I create on vmnic1 and vmnic4 a Trunk with VLAN524 and aother one and now it's work fine.

I attach a view of my Networking configuration
