Hi!
I'm running ESXi 4.1 and am trying to install OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-6.3.0-2075.VIB-ESX41i_A00.8.zip
The server is a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with all the latest firmware loaded.
vihostupdate -i -b OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-6.3.0-2075.VIB-ESX41i_A00.8.zip --server hostname.here.org
I keep getting this error message:
Enter username: root
Enter password:
Please wait patch installation is in progress ...
No matching bulletin or VIB was found in the metadata. No bulletins for this platform could be found. Nothing to do.
My server is upgraded from the latest ESXi 4.0 to ESXi4.1
Before upgrading to ESXi 4.1 openmanage worked fine.
I did however uninstalled openmanage before upgrading to ESXi 4.1
Any ideas?
Regards,
Peter
Hello.
Are you using the vMA or the CLI to do the install? Can you verify that you have the bundle copied and the ESXi host is in maintenance mode?
Good Luck!
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply!
The host is in maintenance mode and i'm using the vma appliance to upload the bundle.
Regards,
Peter
I have the same issue on a esxi host that was upgraded from 4U1 (fresh install) --> U2 (upgrade) --> 4.1. I am using the vSphere CLI 4.1 on Windows to attempt the VIB install. Same message.
I have always loaded updates from another webserver:
vihostupdate.pl <conn_options> --install --bundle https://<3rdParty_webserver>/Cisco_Swordfish.zip
I think your SOL - the upgrade procedure probably left some critical versioning files
untouched in ESXi and the upgrade script thinks your upgraded system is still
an ESXi 4.0 system. You could TRY downloading and installing the
version 6.4 openmanage for ESXi 4.0 but that might blow it up.
I just successfully used the following command to install this using the CLI running on
a Windows XP system, on to an ESXi 4.1 Update 1 system that I just installed,
fresh, from scratch:
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>perl vihostupdate.pl --server x.
x.x.x -i -b OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-6.3.0-2075.VIB-ESX41i_A00.8.zip

The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the c
hanges to be effective.
My suggestion is you use a backup like ghettoVCB to backup your images,
then reboot your Dell and install a scratch copy of Windows Server 2003,
then download and install all of the BIOS and array firmware updates
(which can only be installed from Windows-grrrr! then go into the array config, wipe the array, and
select initialize on ALL disks, wipe them clean, recreate the array, and
install a fresh copy of ESXi.
With vSphere 4.1 use OMSA 6.4

Just try this:
We had some problems with Dell Servers and do that,
good luck
