ESXi 4.1.0 Update 2

Hi all,

I'm just looking to update my two ESXi 4.1.0 Hosts to update 2 without Vcenter Update Manager is there any other possibilities to do this?

Thank you very much

You can use vSphere CLI to perform the Updates (vihostupdate.pl). You have to download and install vCLI on Windows or Linux systems.

Download the patches from here

Refer this thred for using the command http://communities.vmware.com/thread/299113

yes, you can go for offline upgrade using the vCLI command "vihostupdate"

OR

using CLI command esxupdate.

For both of these approach we need to download offline upgrade bundle form the following link.

https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/OFFLINE/release-316-20111024-220362/update-from-esx4.1-4.....

after downloading the bundle, copy it to a VMFS datastore in ESXi host. Then execute the follwoing command after putting the host into maintenance mode.

esxupdate --bundle=update-from-esx4.1-4.1_update02.zip update.

Update Manager is included in the vCenter server standard licenses.

You can download it here: http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/vc41u2/dHdlYnRoaGRidGVwKg==

Update Manager has to be installed as a additional componet, Installation files can be found in vCenter DVD/ISO

You need a separate database for VUM and its a 32 bit DSN, Refer VMware Document for installation

Updated: You can check this blog for step by step instruction

On the vCenter installation CD there is a folder \updateManager.

Run the installation from there.

cool thanks ! now i have it iinstalled und done run the definition task.

Aftre that I see the Update 2 in the patches list on the host but the status is on conflict  with Update1 because:

update is not approved or vcenter has not downloaded this update. That is what the update server says to me.

Any idea how i can fix it?

I suggest that you work through the VMware vCenter Update Manager Installation and Administration Guide to get this up and running.
