I just downloaded and set up VMWare ESXi 4.0 Update 1 and installed it on my IBM x346 server, and ESXi installed just fine with no problems. When I attempted to install Server 2008 R2, however, the setup "crashed" with error 0xc000035a, which near as I can tell, means that the "hardware" is 32-bit, not 64-bit. The CPU's are 3.4GHz "Irwindale" Xeons, and obviously supports 64-bit. If it's te CPU's (It looks like they might not have VT), then would switching CPU's help? My other x346 has a 2.8GHz Dual core that CPU-Z reports as a Xeon 7030 "Paxville" which supposedly does support VT, although for some reason I think it might actually be a "Paxville DP" which doesn't appear to support VT. If neither of these processors will work, then I'll have to look for ones that will.
Thanks
You must have intel VT enabled to run x64 VMs.
Check if there is a BIOS upgrade.

Well, between your post, the iso I downloaded from VMWare to check for 64-bit guest and research on the x346's, there's no way the x346 will run 64-bit guest OSes. IBM: THAT'S LAME! So much for that idea. Guess that server will be my Exchange 2010 box instead.
