What is the procedure to make available for VMs a sound card that just has been pluged into the server??

ESX/ESXI No inbuilt audio driver from Guest OS.
if your taking RDP audio taken from Local system.

If you have PCI card you can try to configure VMDirectPath :
In case of USB - there is a hardware USB-over-IP solutions. Otherwise - try using RDP way.

Some apps do seem to need a local audio device to install and run correctly, even if it will never be used. I've found that Virtual Audio Cable works OK for Windows 7 guests running iTunes (which actually play through AirTunes), perhaps that will help.

But my question, right now, is one level below these problems.
I wonder if I, somehow, have to install the sound card on the server so later I can assign it as a device to a virtual machine.
If I must do that, what is the procedure?
