  • 1.  ESXi 100% free what about vMA and vCLI?

    Posted Jul 19, 2009 08:33 PM

I'm using ESXi with a free license and I am exploring what I can do with this hypervisor. I was searching for backup solutions of my prospective VMs and I came across two scripts by William Lam, ghettoVCB (http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760) and ghettoVCBg2 (http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9843).

It seems that I can rule out ghettoVCBg2 immediately because it requires vMA which will not work with the free license. I am unsure how ghettoVCB will work (I know I have to enable SSH which is unsupported) if I can't use CLI with the free license.

Basically, can someone clarify what I can do with ESXi and the free license? Are both vMA and vCLI useless with this license?

    Thanks

Please take a look here for your answer:

FYI - You should try to search the forum before posting, generally you'll probably find that the question has been asked before :smileywink:

Thanks lamw! I only searched within the ESXi 4 forum. Anyway your answer in the thread you posted answers my question here.

    np.

Yea unfortunately we get question sprawls, and sometimes the same question can be posted in multiple forums or using various words/phrases. I generally search at the root of the forum (http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn) so it'll index the entire thing and if I don't find what I'm looking for in the first few pages, then I would post and ensure my question is in the right section.
