ESXI upgrade

Hi Team ,

Currently i have the ESXI version 6.7.0. UP 3 , 17499825 is running in my environment , and i am planning to upgrade it to 7.0 .

But the HW i am using DELL PowerEdge M640 (VRTX) , CPU Processor,6148,2.4,27.5MB,SKL,H0 .

When i browse the Hardware compatibility check in the VMware website, I got the update like

It is compatible to the CPU's shown below

Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Gold 6100/5100, Silver 4100, Bronze 3100 (Skylake-SP) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0
Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Gold 6200/5200 (Cascade-Lake-SP/Refresh) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0
Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Platinum 8100 (Skylake-SP) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0
Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Platinum 8200 (Cascade-Lake-SP) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0
Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Silver 4200, Bronze 3200 (Cascade-Lake-SP/Refresh) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0

So my query is like whether we can consider this is compatible with what the CPU installed in our environment .

Installed CPU in our environment

DELL PowerEdge M640 (VRTX) , CPU Processor,6148,2.4,27.5MB,SKL,H0

VMware site compatible sheet shows the CPU info

Dell Inc. PowerEdge M640 VRTX Intel Xeon Gold 6100/5100, Silver 4100, Bronze 3100 (Skylake-SP) Series ESXi 7.0 U3 7.0 U2 7.0 U1 7.0

Thanks

Hey @SudhirT1 ,

Your CPU is a Skylake family product, hence it should be compatible.

I checked Dell for you and it is compatible:

FC640, M640, M640 for VRTXIntel Xeon SP (81xx, 61xx, 51xx, 41xx, 31xx) series

We have a dozen VRTX around and even with 13Gen Blades they work fine with vSphere 7 which is fully supportet on 13/14Gen Hosts.

I suggest to upgrade HW first and if you never upgrade your "planar" (the mainbord of the VRTX) you need a downtime. If you have oe of the latest VRTX or already upgrade during the years you can have some luck.

Joerg
