ESXI reporting vmdk locked, but no locks found.

I am attempting to consolidate the disks on a VM.  However, when I do, I am getting an error that the vmdk is locked.  Searching through the log files I see:

AIOMGR: AIOMgr_OpenWithRetry: Descriptor file '/vmfs/volumes/5c06e1ef-efe5d35e-7609-d0946693d577/vm/vm.vmdk' locked

Running vmfsfilelockinfo I get

vmfsfilelockinfo Version 2.0
Looking for lock owners on "vm.vmdk"
"vm.vmdk" is not locked by any ESX host and is Free
Total time taken : 0.059230106882750988 seconds.

But still the error when running a consolidate.

Running consolidate while it is shutdown.

VM starts up just fine.

What else can I do to attempt to figure out why ESXI is saying that the VM is locked.

Hi

that can be fixed easily.

Just add new vmdk to the VM, boot to Linux LiveCD and clone disk to disk with ddrescue.

Since we still have not upgrade to ESXi5 and datastore maintenance mode, we used ... that after few check, we found orphans vmdk still in the source datastore. ... We got the same result trying to delete them directly trought SSH on ESXi servers … topsurvey.onl
