ESXI Upgrade from 5.5 to 6.7 - missing datastores

Hello everybody, I hope you can help me.

A collegue upgraded an esxi from version 5.5 to version 6.7 (instead of 6.0 as requred...). After that the datastore disappeared.

Now I will need to go at customer site to try to rollback or solve the issue. What do you think could be the best way?

- Rollback to 5.5 and then upgrade to 6.0 (I hope is still possible, after 10 days)

- Try to recover the datastore in 6.7... but how?

- Any other suggestion?

It's pretty urgent..... Smiley Sad

Shift + R at boot-up to roll-back to the last stored version. This only works if they did no other patching after the upgrade to 6.7.

Hi, he told me that he upgraded to 6.5 first and then to 6.7....

That means the 5.5 is lost?

Some questions (if it's not already too late):

Is ESXi installed on HDDs, or on a USB/SD device?

You say "After that the datastore disappeared.". Does that mean that there's no datastore visible at all, or does one exist but has no content (i.e. is empty)?

In case it's not visible, how does the partition table on the host look like? Does it contain a "VMFS" partition?

Is the host (especially the RAID controller) supported by ESXi 6.7?

Paulstrife,

If your datastores were using VMFS3 before you upgraded, that would be the reason you can't see them on ESXi 6.7.  You should upgrade them to VMFS5 before going to ESXi 6.5 or beyond.
