ESXI HA and MSA storage array Vsphere 4.1

Hi,

We have an issue with vmware ha. Setup is 2 hosts connected via 2 sas connections per server to the storage array. I am testing HA when i so there is esxi1 and esxi2 hosts. The vms are on esxi2. So if i shutdown the esxi2 host the machine move to esxi1 server perfect working fine. Next test same setup if i pull the 2 storage controllers on 1 esxi host simulating a loss of connectivty to the storage array the vms do not move off the host even though it has completely lost connectivity to the storage. It is like because the esxi host is still up eventhough it has lost connectivity to the storage array the virtual  servers do not move as HA detects the host is still up??

Any ideas

Thks

Host HA only triggers, if the management network becomes unavailable (i.e. no host heartbeats and the isolation address/gateway not pingable). It does not monitor the storage. What you could try is to activate the Virtual Machine Monitoring in the HA configuration. This will monitor VMware Tools heartbeats and - in case there are none - storage and network I/O of the VM and trigger HA if all of them fail.

VMware HA cannot check the storage status. It is a network based test... Also in vSphere 5 (where is a new test on storage) it cannot handle a storage failure (you must use multipath for this issue).
