ESXI 6.7 config lost after reboot

Hey,

Since i have update to ESXI 6.7.0 Update 3 (Build 15160138) which is booting from a USB, I noticed that after a reboot that the config is lost. ESXI is running on a Dell T20.

I tired a number of things that i found when browsing the forum but nothing seems to work.

1. ran autobackup

/sbin/auto-backup.sh
Files /etc/vmware/dvsdata.db and /tmp/auto-backup.2100458//etc/vmware/dvsdata.db differ
Saving current state in /bootbank
Clock updated.
Time: 09:17:13 Date: 11/14/2022 UTC

2. backup of config and restored it.

vim-cmd hostsvc/firmware/backup_config

scp Downloads/configBundle-esxi.tgz esxi:/vmfs/volumes/nvme/

vim-cmd hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter

vim-cmd hostsvc/firmware/restore_config /vmfs/volumes/nvme/configBundle-esxi.tgz

3. ran backup script but it appears to fail

/sbin/backup.sh
Usage: /sbin/backup.sh IsShutdown [PATH_NAME]

Anyone have any other suggestions on how I can get the config to persist?

what ever the cause of this is the issue seems to be running ESXI from a USB.

i setup ESXI from a usb again and within a couple of months the same issue happened again.

I then setup ESXI on a SSD and its been running without any issues for 3 months now.

Are you seeing in BIOS USB detected or not if yes , what is the error at the time of booting,
