ESXI 6.5 : Any problems not unmounting/detaching datastores before removing storage paths?

In the process of transferring datastores from a 3PAR 7200 to a 8200. We are using the same iscsi connection.. so to vmotion we connected 2 iscsi paths to both 7200 and 8200. Once we completed and verified the storage vmotion we disconnected the remaining 2 7200 cables and plugged them to the 8200 so it now has 4 paths.

Now i didnt unmount/detach the old datastores before disconnecting the cables from the 7200 just incase our IT director had something stored in the datastore we werent made aware off (hes on vacation). Once the old datastores get disconnected from the array we cant really do anything other then delete it. My reasoning here is that if there WAS something he needed to pull from the datastore that all we would have to do is reattach 2 cables to the 7200, rescan and its up again. And if everyone was satified with the migration that we were just gonna delete the old datastores because we plan on decomissioning the older 3PAR 7200.

Correct. Those datastore would mount itself once you rescan for devices and VMFS volume. Ensure your'e not making any changes on those LUNs from storage side.

Will there be any issues if we just attempt to delete the datastores? (Not talking about from the backend storage)

Deleting VMFS data store destroy the data/VMs on data store. You should choose this option when you want to clean-up/format target LUN. Anyhow, in your case you will get error if you choose this option because these is no connectivity to target lun. The best option you had to unmount and detach it and to save LUN id and WWN which you can present and mount again with same content. The same device will kept under discover-able devices list in italic fonts unless you unpresent from storage side.

As of now, I would suggest to do not make any changes, keep it as it is. In case you required data, present same LUN from storage side and re-scan host. Sometimes datastore doesn't mount automatically in such kind of cases, where you need to mount from devices list and re-scan host adapters.
