ESXI 5.1 Monitor

Dear All,

i was wondering if there is some possibility to monitor the VM's on the ESXI,

like if a server goes down or been rebooted to send a notification,

Tools like WhatsUp work well. Just ESXi and no vCenter right?

Correct - ESXi has no alerting, so yes you will need 3rd party software or vCenter.

you can also try using the Alarms for some level of monitoring on ESXi hosts and VMs.

Goto VC, select VC name at left top, goto alarms and edit the definition that matches your requirement, set action to send email.

Goto VC home, vCenter server settings, Mail, and set the fields there. Test it and let me know if this helps.

Hi,

you could install a vCenter Server on a seperate Windows machine or use the virtual vcenter appliance.

But you have to buy a license for the vCenter. You could use it  60 days for free testing. But after that, you have to buy a license.

Centosuser.

I believe your questiona is not compete.

There is several ways to do this using third part tools.

You can use any monitoring tool with an agent installed on VM to provide alerts about VM state.

Is there any other point on your question?

You have to create an account on my.vmware.com , and then goto downloads and can download trial version from there.

the vCenter app is a vApp - hence VM and requires no OS to be pre-installed. And you can install VC on any platform ( physical / Virtual ) and that requires a windows OS.

Hi,

that doesn't matter. It could be both. Physical and virtual.
