ESXI 4.0 U1, Resource Allocation tab, Memory, Total Capacity

Hi All,

I am running ESXI 4 U1 on a Dell T7400 workstation. 8gig of RAM. Install was successful without any errors.

I did a fresh install and ESXI is picking up the 8gig of RAM no problem but the Resource Allocation tab shows under Total Capacity for Memory, 6114MB. Where's roughly the other 2gig of RAM? The Summary tab shows 765MB being used so I get that. I have no VMs loaded yet. I attached two screen shots to show the info. Please let me know if this is a problem or normal.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Dave

Welcome to the Forums - I velieve what you are seeing is normal - the memory is being utilized by the vmkernel -

ESXi uses up to 2 GB just for itself.
