ESX upgrade from 6.5 to V7 boot disk size problem.

Hello,

I got the following message when doing the upgrade:

Exp-user_0-1617661575413.png

I checked The disks on ESX and found that there is a local disk of the type VMFS with a lot of free GB.

My questions:

- is it a good practice to move ESX OS from flash disk to local disk?

- is it applicable to clone from from flash usb disk to local VMFS?

- if that's applicable, what is the best way to do the clone?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a local disk in your server besides the flash disk you could use that local disk to install a fresh copy of ESXi 7. I would not recommend cloning an installation. But that disk already has a VMFS partition so make sure it is not used.

Hi jburen,

Fresh installation means I will lose all the configurations.

How can I maintain My current configs to keep my environment the same before installation.

Thanks

But what aspect of the configuration is specific to an ESXi host? In the environment, I manage we don't make backups of ESXi hosts. If something goes wrong we just re-install ESXi.

Cluster config is no issue because you can add the newly installed host to an existing cluster. Network configuration could be an issue when you are using standard vSwitches. But you can always copy that from an existing host using PowerCli.
