Hi,
I have a question based on a bad experience from a colleague today. (From what I know he removed the first one in the chain without asking for advice first....:smileyshocked:).
I know that in older version of esx (3.0 and 3.5) if you delete a snapshot in the middle or in the beginning of the chain, you risk loosing the machine.
Does anybody know if this still applies or was resolved in version 4 (or 5). I had a quick look around but didn't find anything specific on this.
If not, does anybody have experience with trying to recover the machine in it's later state?

IMO there's nothing to resolve. The way how snapshots work in VMware producs has not been modified. Snapshots are still used in a chain and if one of the chain links is removed you will more or less be in trouble. KB article http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015180 explains how snapshots work.
