ESX host fails to automatically reconnect to VC after reboot

Hi.

After rebooting an ESX/ESXi host, sometimes they fail to reconnect to the VC (even after a very long time - an hour), and a manual action is required to re-connect them.

Once reconnected manuall, using VI Clien, they reconnect with no issues.

Manual reconnect can be done within only a few minutes since the reboo (so the automatic process should not take long).

This issue started recently, without any network changes or updates.

Obviously, restarting the ESX host does not solve the issue

Restarting the VC also did not solve the issue.

Where do I start digging ?

Hi Zeevik,

Have you checked the usual stuffs?

- hostnames,

- reinstall vpxa on the service console,

1) No hostmanes. all is IP based.

2) How do I re-install vpxa ?

Hi Zeevik,

I think that's the problem, for the vpxa, u will need the hostname. for the vCenter & ESX to communicate properly, please set the hostname on the ESX accordingly.

Tried both, and it still does not solve the issue.

A newly installed ESX hosts (as of this morning) has the same issues ....

any other directions I can follow ?

Nope. no FWs, connected to the same Switc, same subnet.

no communication issues.

Pings are success full, SSH is successful.

Manually clicking "connect" works fine.

Not that I know of,

but what logs can I look at (ESX? VC?) for errors ?

/var/log/vmware/vpx/vpxa.log

/var/log/vmware/hostd.log
