ESX License

I have a situation here whereby one customer (came out from nowhere) throw me this. They bought total of 8x CPU license and the current hardware they are using right now is 4x ESX host with 4x socket each :

  • License = 8x CPU
  • ESX hosts = 4
  • Physical CPU = 4

Is it possible for them to only assign 2x CPU license per ESX host?

Thanks

I would be more inclined to just use two ESX Hosts, then trying to mask out CPU's via licensing.  Either that, or tell them to buy more licenses.

...but either way, you should talk to VMware Support.

You'll have to speak to VMware licensing, or at least your reseller.

I think you'll find though that your only oprion will be to purchase more licenses.

(Kind of like buying the bulk pack of Mars bars at the store and then wanting to split it and return a few)

Sorry, but good luck and please feed back with the outcome for future reference.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

Well, HP help us with one workaround and it's workable.

However, tonight we gonna try another workaround provided by someone.

Anyway, thanks to both of u..

Workaround the only solution and this is not the best solution to follow
