Dear VMware Experts,
I have folund the following logs in vmkernel which statest that Shutdown deliberately triggered by an administrator by physically pressing the power button to turn off the hardware or using the hardware tools such as iLO/DRAC/RAS etc.
/var/log/vmkernel log of the ESX host:
VMKAcpi: 1865: In PowerButton Helper
and in messages i have found the following logs what does this logs means
Shutting down for system halt
Switching to runlevel: 0
Please do help me to understand the logs are generated in messages log file....
Regards

Alternatively, the outage may have been deliberately triggered by an administrator by physically pressing the power button to turn off the hardware or using the hardware tools such as iLO/DRAC/RAS etc. This occurrence may generate this event in the /var/log/vmkernel log of the ESX host
VMKAcpi: 1865: In PowerButton Helper
May if you run "shutdown -h now" command in vmware all will stop (services). And when is shown Shutting down for system halt
it´s same of "Can poweroff your server" using botton of poweroff.
I presume that you´ve ESX4.

Dear Mauro,
Many thanks for the quick reply....
I just want to know as per the message log does it mean weather someone has pressed the button or run the shutdown command....
please help me with the same.

You may need to look for any traces of someone logged into the host locally during that time period. Can use the below kb to trace the user activities on the service console: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101002...
There should also be logs for the Remote Console interface (atleast in iLO I know it tracks).
