ESX 5

Hi ,

Would like to know if ESX is available with vSphere 5.0 release or it will be only ESXi. Will be grateful if somebody could guide me through the upgrade best practices from vSphere 4.0 to vSphere 5.0.

Cheers

like previously announced, ESX 4.1 will be the last of it's kind all newer release will be ESXi based. As for the rest, please do wait for the official GA where only actual upgrade best practices will be release ..

In vSphere 5 there will be only ESXi.

The right way is start migrating to this platform.

About best practices see: http://www.vmware.com/resources/techresources/10112

There will be no further development of ESX - from now onwards it is ESXi only - Are you hesitant to make the migration? your functionality will remain the same, your environment will be more secure and patching becomes far simpler.

As for the upgrade guide - as VMware have not yet officially announced vSphere 5 - or a release date, this information is not yet available. There are rumours on the web about an announcement in July - but this is all speculation - we won't know anything until VMware themselves make an announcement.

No doubt of course though - a whitepaper / upgrade guide will be available as soon as the product is available.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
