ESX 5.1 + Windows 2012 Server (Not installing)

Hi,

We have a vsphere 5.1 (ESXi, 5.1.0, 1021289) / vCenter 5.1 environment that was setup and updated to the latest patches with update manager.

We are trying to install Windows Server 2012 standard and are getting boot problems, which where similar to the 5.0 issues, where the Installation just reboots right on the first boot load with Error "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart" with error code 0xc000021a.

We have tried this with the Vanilla install of ESXi 5.1 (799733) as well as after the update.

The VM's where setup as basic and also tried as "custom" vm with the settings for both win server 2012 and win server 2008, to no avail. Always the same error.

Any ideas?

Windows 2012 Release ISO from VLSC and Action Pack (compared both downloads, same image).

Release SW_DVD5_NTRL_Windows_Svrs_2012_English_FPP_OEM_Std_DC_X18-32720

Nothing newer available on our end.

The issue has been resolved. It seems that there is a bug in the X18-32720 release of Windows Server Std 2012. We managed to get ahold of a Windows Server 2012 release image from MSDN which works perfectly with standard and custom configuration of VM templates.

The release one should look for is en_windows_server_2012_x64_dvd_915478   (release 915478).

BTW, the patches listed above only apply to Vmware ESXi 5.0 not 5.1.
