ESX 4.1 integration with Active Directory

So what does this "buy" you? I joined my ESX servers to my domain. I was able to add a domain account as an administrator connecting directly to a host and then logged in successfully. Anything beyond giving domain users permissions directly on a host? Am I missing some other functionality?

Thanks in advance

Let me see.. hmm.. NOPE! That's it!

vCenter takes care of this for you.. so you don't even need it.

vCenter does not cover it for you in all cases. If you need to run vSphere CLI commands, Powershell, or use the vMA, then having your ESXi host joined to the domain allows you to use domain credentials and not local account credentials. This is a huge win for environments where security is a concern and you need an audit trail of who did what. We use vCenter, but I've found having the ESX hosts joined to the domain is a huge win-win since we can dispense with the local accounts.
