ESX 4.0 install - No disk detected

Hi,

I'm trying to install ESX 4.0 on a NEC Express 5800 120Rg-1 in graphical mode.

At the harddisk selection step, the setup doesn't find any disk : the avaliable disks area is empty.

The server has a LSI SaS 1068 B0 Controller, and there is one disk only.

Any idea about that ?

Thanks

Michael

I only found the LSI SAS 1068E controller certified. Check here under I/O devices: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php.

Boot with some other OS (Windows, Linux) and check if they can see a disk.

Ok I'll take a look.

The disk is detected by Windows 2003, but not by Gparted-live 0.4.6-1.

Maybe that it due to the fact that this card is not supported. Linux may be see the disk also, but ESX must not. I wanted to make sure that this is noot a configuration issue.

I edit the post : Gparted doesn't see the disk. I don't know if it's representative, but it seems to be a linux.

What can I do to solve this problem, to change the controler ?

Yes, IMHO that's the only thing you can do.

Search here for supported models: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

That's not a very good news, because i've just added 20 GB of memory on this server...

Have you an idea of prices for a new controler ?

Hi,

I've found a new controler : If I understand the I/O guide, it seems to be ok with ESX 4.0 U1 :

LSI MegaRAID SAS 9211-4i

Can you confirm ?
