We had upgraded our Virtual centre version 2.0 to 2.5. But have decided to upgrade through to version 4 rather than continue to 3.5.
The Vcentre upgrade to version 4 went without a hitch. when we tried to upgrade our ESX 3.0 host to ESX 4.0 it failed due to not having a vmfs partition on the local storage. Using the forums and and a lot of crossed fingers along with a bit of putty we have created a VMFs dtastore on the local drive that can now be seen in vcentre/Host/config/storage... etc
before we go ahead and hit the remediate button again it has been suggested that a nice clean install of ESXi 4.0 would be a better way to go..
After reading a lot of the documentation and hunting the forums.. I am at a loss as to how to either copy or reconfigure easily the virtual switch configuration from the ESX 3.0 environment.
Is there a process that would make this a backup and restore process..?
Rgds to all who manage to understand this
