Duplicating VM to Remote Location

Just wanted to confirm that if the VM is shutdown and you use the Datastore Browser to download all the files contained in a VM folder, then that should be an exact duplicate of the VM?  That is should anything happen to the VM that exist in the Datastore, i can delete all the files in the Datastore, upload the data back using Datastore Browser and power on the VM.  This should return my VM to the exact state it was in when it was downloaded right?

You can test the theory by uploading to a new folder on the datastore, right click on the VMX file and add to inventory with a new name. Uncheck the network connection(s) from edit settings and start the new machine.
