Drive space in P2V'd server

I'm going to be P2V'ing several server 2003 OS's (I know, I know...OS's have expensive software installed and client doesn't want to buy new versions). Will I be able to expand the drive space of the virtual C:, D:, E:, etc..., during the transition (or afterwards)? How does the P2V process handle the multiple drives?

TIA!

You can expand the drives during the conversion and afterwards (using a tool like Dell Extpart, for example). If you do the expansion as part of the conversion, the process can take a bit longer (it switches how it copies the data). The time will vary based on network speed, amount of data, etc. If you're trying to get an actual time, you could always do a test conversion and see how long that takes.

Be sure to put each drive (C, D, etc) into its own VMDK.

Thx eeg3.

Is the drive expansion function part of the (free) VMware Converter? Also, how does it handle multiple drives? does it just create one database for all 3 drives?

It is included, and it is done by editing the settings during the conversion wizard and choosing a larger size for the disk.

As far as the multiple drives, you will want to go to the 'Advanced' view and ensure one drive per VMDK. If it puts them all in one VMDK, click the 'Add' button and then 'Move down' the partition to the new disk.

Okay, thx!

Once this gets approved we'll have time to do a test migration and ensure all the correct settings.
