Downgrade from virtual H/W from 9 to 8

Hi,

I have succesfully done it by overwritting vmx, vmxf and nvram files with a backup copy of them but I have two questions:

1. Can I be sure that the previous upgrade from version 8 to 9 did not change the contents of the VMDK?
2. Can I leave the VMTools version 9 on downgraded VM running in ESXi 5.0 update 1?

changes to the virutal machine hardware changes the vmx so the vmdk should be fine.

as long as its not going to a host under 5.1 its should be ok

I need to move downgraded virtual machines to an ESX 5.0 update 1

I tried with a test VM and everything seems work ok but I would like to be sure.

There wont be any changes to the VMDK file when the changes are done in VMX file

Higher version of VMware tools can be run, if u want you can uninstall the vmware tools and re-install vmware tools
