Does restarting the mgmt-vmware service cause VM downtime

I am looking into configuring SNMP on our ESX hosts for Solarwinds alerting, and the last step I have is to restart the mgmt-vmware service.

I have looked around online, and have been unable to find confirmation that this will not cause any down time with the VMs running on these hosts, as they are production machines.

We are running ESX v4.1.0

Thanks in advance.

while it shouldnt do anything to the vms there is a small possibility that doing so will make the vms inaccessible so its still better to do it after hours if possible

You only need to be careful if you are using Automatic Startup/Shutdown of VM's. see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003490
