Hello all !
Just a question: I'm trying to build a test environment on my ESXi host, I would install Windows 2008 r2 in order to test new Hyper-V feautures. Is this possibible ?
Windows 2008 R2 installation go well until I try to add Hyper-V role: i get a message box that refuse the installation of Hyper-V because CPU features is missing and/or is not compatible; the server is an HP ML 350 G5 and the cpu is a Intel E5310.
Thanks in advance,
Grimo
.. in Short you cannot use one Virtualization product within another. So NO Hyper-V does not RUN under ESXi 4.
Good Afternoon,
As I understand it this is not possible because Hyper-V and XEN need to see the underlying hardware in order to use the AMD-V and Intel virtualisation extensions. With a VM running on ESX the hardware is virtualised away so the VM will not see the necessary extensions.
Regards,
Dave.
Right. VMware products do not virtualize the hardware-assisted virtualization features of the physical CPU. These features are required to run Hyper-V.
